our 10-day cellular reboot

10 days of juice

by Donnia + Frank Denig, Holistic Practitioners

So, we decided to cleanse. We decided to clean house. Literally. And at the cellular level.

Frank and I try to live a simple and joyful life. Our careers as holistic practitioners has given us the opportunities to learn so much about humanity, health and how to be, well, joyful. And we want to share what we learn, with you.

A few weeks ago, we looked at each other and said, “I’m hungry, lets go out to eat.” We live in a small town and don’t have a lot of options to eat good healthy food. Actually we don’t have any options, save 1. The food places are all fast food in our opinions. The quality of food is just as bad as the packaged, processed food sold in the stores. It makes us feel bloated, have gas, creates irritability, lethargy and it literally runs right through us. The only thing we ever really argue about it “what’s for dinner”, its funny actually. And although we love to cook, our current situation doesn’t allow for us to cook full fantastic meals every single night.

We came home and said, ya know, we should cleanse/detox/reset whatever our digestive system. We have both done little fasting or detoxes before so we knew this wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. But we did decide to do this for 10 days. We are on day one now. Right now, it seems doable. Ask me in another day or two.

We wanted to share our thoughts, ideas and photos of this journey with you and keep it for long term educational purposes.

We are not sticking to any one plan. We have 5 books in front of us and are picking through them to see what might work best.

{ One note to add here – neither Frank  (52) nor I (44) are on any medication of any kind. We do have “issues” we would rather see go away but none of them require a prescription. We must advocate that if you are contemplating doing anything like this, go talk to your doctor first. Hopefully they will support you on this healthy journey. }

{ second note: We also have a complete distrust of the corporate food supply in this country. All our foods for the next 10 days will be coming from farmers markets or the organic section of our local store. }

So, back to the plan. Our goal isn’t to lose weight. It may happen along the way, but our main goal is to rebuild our cells – at the cellular level – with clean eating.

And away we go. Day one started with smiles and excitement. Yes, we are excited to drink just juice for 10 days. our food choices were what was in season, including ginger, cilantro, parsley, kale, melons, cucumber, dandelion greens, avocados, strawberries, bananas, tomatoes, spinach, apples, oranges, lemons, limes, garlic, asparagus, raspberries, blueberries, pineapple, grapes, cranberries, carrots, celery, broccoli, beets, onions, home made almond or cashew milk and filtered water. Our total cost thus far for food has been $98 for one week. We bought a power juicer for $100. So we are in thus far for about $200.

Our source was real food. Real gosh-darn food. No packages, no ribbons. Just pure food. That we can pronounce.

Ginger is amazing for digestive health. I am so in love with this little spice. Garlic and Asparagus – will be juiced tomorrow.

Cilantro is now my fvaorite new herb. I use it in everything from salads to sandwiches to rice dishes and soups. Known by it’s other name, Coriander – I just found that out – is a must in any healthy kitchen.

Breakfast was super yummy. and so easy. Down the hatch!

Lunch was even better. Avocado, banana, apple, pear, freshly made almond milk.

We had planned on taking some time off for other business related things – deep cleaning, remodeling of our treatment room floors, some outside landscaping. That said, we also have allotted much of our time to resting. This is an integral part of our plan, and needs to be considered when attempting such an adventure. Because we are jolting and deep cleaning our bodies, they will require much more rest than usual. Not necessarily napping all afternoon, but allowing our bodies to rest – not feeling rushed or having the demands of regular life thrown at us from all sides. We will also be including massage therapy, steam therapy, meditation and yoga into our routine for the duration of the cleanse. Stay tuned. Dinner is fast approaching.

dinner was fantastic! Pineapple, granny smith apples, spinach and romaine lettuce, mint and lemon.

As this journey continues, we will post about how we feel and what’s coming up for the next dining adventure. We wanted to give you an idea, first hand of what it would be like to go on an adventure like this. And maybe inspire you to get clean and healthy too.
